Purchase price or leasing, insurance, taxes, maintenance, tires, depreciation, parking – it all has to go in. The kilometers on the odometer are mercilessly objective.
Where the advantage of renting lies
It quickly became clear: at the start, a car is most expensive per kilometer. The fixed costs weigh on every single kilometer as long as little is driven. That's exactly where the advantage of renting lies: you can "drive down" the expensive first kilometers without carrying the full risk of ownership.
This calculation shaped me. Even before I started renting out Teslas myself, I switched from owner to renter. Drive a lot, experience the technology intensively, without being financially tied down long-term.
